About me:
Alison Prekeges is a double major, in dance and physics, and double minor, in mathematics and astronomy, at Central Washington University. She is also a member of CWU’s Orchesis Dance Company. Alison has trained and competed in various styles of dance, ranging from tap to hip hop to ballet. She has furthered her training in ballet, modern, and ballroom at Central Washington University. Some of Alison’s recent works include choreographing tap for Ellensburg Dance Ensemble’s The Nutcracker and three dances for CWU’s Orchesis Dance Company. She was Clara in EDE’s The Nutcracker and performed at American College Dance Association in March of 2022 and 2023. Alison has interned at Seattle Theater Group’s DANCE This Camp at Centrum in the summers of 2022 and 2023. She enjoys other parts of her life outside of dance, such as teaching skiing and snowboarding in the winter, drawing, and singing.

My Teaching Philosophy
My personal approach to teaching is to be mindful of and be helpful to my student. I never want a student to feel uncomfortable talking to me or being in the classroom when I’m teaching. I also want the students to stay engaged in what I am teaching because when something is engaging it is more likely to be retained and become a happy memory.
I want my students to improve their dancing. This is obviously an important part of their learning as it is why they are taking class, however, this is not all I want them to accomplish. I want my students to gain confidence in their dancing. I want them to feel proud of themselves and stand tall looking at what they have learned and how far they have come. I also want my students to gain a love for dance. This is one of my most important goals because if a student loves dance, they are more likely to learn and be receptive to new movements and corrections.
Inside my classroom I will not tolerate any sort of bullying. My classes are a space for learning and acceptance of everyone’s journey through this process. If any bullying happens in a classroom, it prevents the bullied student from progressing as much as they could. It can cause people to shut down and feel excluded and uncomfortable. This goes against everything I want my students to take out of my classes.
I want students to feel comfortable with each other and myself so that can freely express themselves without fear of judgment. I want my classes to be a welcoming and inviting environment where anyone would feel welcome. I want everyone to encourage each other to do better and work hard.
